Staci Understands Rain. Leslie Understands Stone.
Staci has taken the west of Ireland weather seriously. Leslie has been making women with the steadiness of old stone walls. The Open Studio is Friday at Olive Stack Gallery.
Staci understands rain. Leslie understands stone.
Give those two a month at Olive Stack Gallery in the west of Ireland and, frankly, the rest begins to arrange itself.
Anyone who knows Staci will not be surprised that she has taken the weather seriously. She notices the things most of us only complain about: a wet road turning silver, cloud sitting low on a hill, a field becoming an entirely unreasonable shade of green after a proper shower. In her work, rain is not background. It is doing something.
Anyone who knows Leslie will recognise the women she has been making. They have presence. There is something of the old stone walls in them: shaped by time, marked by weather, softened at the edges, and in absolutely no danger of falling over.
