Some records arrive looking as if they have a point to prove.

I Am a Bird Now arrives looking as if it has already proved something, quietly, while the rest of us were still deciding whether the coffee was helping.

Antony and the Johnsons are on the shelf today, and the sleeve is not doing the usual bright retail work. Black and white room. Bed. Flowers. A figure lying there with the stillness of a photograph that has decided not to explain itself to anyone in a hurry. It is a cover that makes the counter feel a little less like a counter and a little more like a room with a chair pulled out.

Good. Some records deserve a chair.
