Today's Shelf Pull: Daft Punk, The Robots Brought Hooks

Daft Punk's Discovery is on the shelf today: a 2023 2LP reissue where French house, pop nerve and disco machinery all remember to be human.

Some records arrive with so much shine on them you expect them to be shallow.

Discovery is not shallow.

It is glossy, yes. It has chrome on the shoes and lights in the jacket. It opens with One More Time, which is less a song than a public instruction to stop pretending the day cannot be improved. But underneath all that brightness is a record with real patience, real structure, and a suspicious amount of heart for something made by two men dressed like excellent kitchen appliances.

That is the trick.
