A Shelf Pull about the space between fragility and force, and the pleasure of hearing an album all the way through.
Some records are put on while you do something else. Grace makes that arrangement difficult. You can start with a list of jobs and perfectly reasonable intentions. A few songs later, the list is still there. You have become less concerned about it.
Jeff Buckley's Grace arrived in 1994. Our copy belongs to the latest New Arrivals selection, which is a different sort of newness. The record has not suddenly become young again. It has simply found its way back to a shelf where someone can discover it.
You may arrive here through Hallelujah. That is a perfectly good door. It is not the whole house. There are ten tracks on this LP, and the pleasure is in hearing how much changes around the song you thought you already knew.
The attraction is the distance between fragility and force. Buckley's voice can sound close enough to make a room feel smaller, then open into something much larger. The quiet passages matter because the record never treats quiet as an absence of feeling.
