Today's Shelf Pull: Santana, Sparks With a Pulse

Santana III is on the shelf today: a 1971 LP where Latin-rock heat, percussion, guitar pressure and one gloriously busy sleeve all arrive with their sleeves rolled up.

Some records arrive with a neat little wave.

Santana III arrives as if the door has opened and the rhythm section has already found the good table.

Santana is on the shelf today, and the sleeve is not exactly easing itself into the room. It has a dark cosmic sort of background, a burst of light doing more work than most chandeliers, and that yellow figure on the right looking as if gravity has been temporarily asked to wait outside. There is a red and yellow flare down the left too, just in case anyone thought the cover might run out of business.

It will not.
