Tina Turner, Break Every Rule (40th Anniversary Edition), is today's shelf pull for Kilmorna in Listowel. On vinyl, the original eleven songs offer a useful invitation: listen beyond the familiar entrances and notice how the record makes room around its central voice.

First released in 1986, the album followed Private Dancer. That history matters, but it need not dominate the listening. The more immediate business is the meeting of polished pop arrangements with a singer whose grain and phrasing resist becoming just another smooth surface.

There is pleasure in that friction. Bright drums and layered instrumental parts provide an orderly frame; Turner brings the human irregularity. Listen for the contrast between the music's clean outlines and the expressive weight of the voice moving inside them.
