Charli XCX made how i'm feeling now in 2020. That fact could have been a problem. Nobody needs another album introduced with the word lockdown and a solemn face. Thankfully, Charli does not do solemn for long. She turns the small-room pressure into something fast, bright and restless. The songs sound close to the nerve. forever and claws come in with hard digital shine. 7 years and enemy keep the anxiety visible. party 4 u is the one that looks like a club track until you notice the ache underneath. This is the trick of the record: it feels private without becoming small.
The neon orange translucent LP makes sense. It looks exactly as subtle as the album is, which is to say not very. Good. Some records should announce themselves before the needle even lands.
For anyone building the Charli shelf, this sits neatly between the sharper experiment and the bigger pop statement. Crash and BRAT make more noise in public. how i'm feeling now is the one still glowing in the room after everyone leaves. Limited neon orange translucent LP edition with barcode 0190295209285.
Glitchy electropop, hyperpop edges, bright synth pressure, compressed club energy and vocals close to the nerve.
