Prequelle is Ghost turning plague imagery into arena theatre. Released in 2018, the album arrives after Meliora had moved the Swedish band from cult fascination toward a much larger rock audience, and it understands that scale immediately. The songs are brighter, bigger and more open than the band's earliest work, but the sweetness is never innocent. Under the choruses sits a record about collapse, sickness, religious spectacle and the way public disaster gets dressed up as ritual. Rats opens the door with a hard, hook-heavy charge, giving Ghost one of their most direct statements of dread as entertainment.
