Frozen In Time is the 2024 debut album from Los Yesterdays, the Los Angeles duo built around Gabriel Rowland and Victor "Bad Vic" Benavides. The record comes out of a modern Chicano soul movement that treats oldies, lowrider ballads, doo-wop sweetness and Mexican-American memory as living material rather than retro costume. Its title is apt, but not because the music is stuck in the past. It is about Los Angeles as a place where yesterday and today keep overlapping in the same streets, cars, family stories and romantic disappointments. The album's craft is careful and affectionate. Nobody's Clown, Love Is a Game for Fools, Name On Me, Brown Boy, Something Happened and I Want You To Stay draw on falsetto harmonies, slow-dance tempos, guitar warmth, organ and piano colour, vibraphone touches and close vocal arrangements. Benavides sings with ache rather than showiness, while Rowland's multi-instrumental production keeps the sound lush but intimate. Frozen In Time matters because it does not merely imitate the sweet soul of earlier decades. It lets that vocabulary carry present-tense identity, tenderness and Chicano Los Angeles pride with a soft but unmistakable conviction.

The album matters because it gives the contemporary lowrider-soul revival a full-length statement with a strong sense of place. Released in 2024, it connects East Los Angeles musical memory to new songwriting, showing how sweet soul forms can carry cultural identity, romance and community continuity without becoming empty nostalgia.

Collectors drawn to modern soul should pay close attention to this title. It belongs beside Thee Sacred Souls, Thee Sinseers and other Daptone-adjacent or Penrose-connected releases, but its Mexican-American ballad feeling gives it a distinct centre. The reason to own it is the complete mood: slow, romantic, local and carefully arranged.

Modern Chicano sweet soul with lowrider ballad tempos, warm harmonies, aching lead vocals, soft drums, guitar shimmer, organ colour and a lovingly vintage studio glow.

Recommended for: Fans of contemporary lowrider soul and East Los Angeles oldies culture; Collectors following modern soul revival labels and scenes; Listeners who want romantic, slow-burning harmony music with deep local identity.
