Under Cöver turns Motörhead's attention towards other people's songs. First released in 2017, the collection gathers eleven interpretations of material associated with artists ranging from David Bowie and the Rolling Stones to Judas Priest and the Ramones. The attraction is hearing familiar writing reframed by the band's voice, guitar sound and relentless sense of rhythm. Heroes offers a particularly revealing change of mood, while the harder selections let the trio's directness do the work. Across the sequence, the songs retain enough of their original identity to make the transformation interesting. The album is a useful sideways view of Motörhead: a record of musical connections and enthusiasms, presented here in the black single-LP edition.
A covers collection can reveal what a band hears in music outside its own catalogue. Under Cöver makes those connections tangible. The range of selections puts Motörhead's hard-rock identity beside punk, classic rock and more reflective songwriting, without losing the personality that holds the record together.
This is the eleven-track black-vinyl edition scheduled for 11 September 2026. Its programme is arranged across two sides, with six tracks on side A and five on side B. Under Cöver is a collection of Motörhead performances of other artists' material, making it a distinct companion to the studio albums.
Familiar rock and punk songs recast through abrasive bass, forceful drums, hard-edged guitar and Lemmy's distinctive, grainy vocal presence.
Recommended for: Motörhead collectors exploring the band beyond original studio songs; Fans of rock covers that preserve a strong performer identity; Listeners interested in the links between punk and hard rock; David Bowie listeners curious about the Motörhead version of Heroes.
