Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! is the 2008 Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds album where biblical resurrection, New York swagger and the aftershock of Grinderman collide in a burst of wired rock and roll. Coming after Abattoir Blues / The Lyre Of Orpheus and the first Grinderman record, it feels less like a solemn Bad Seeds ceremony than a feverish street sermon with jokes, lust, dread and literary static flying everywhere. The title track imagines Lazarus displaced into a modern city, while Today's Lesson, Moonland, Night Of The Lotus Eaters, We Call Upon The Author and More News From Nowhere keep stretching the album's world through myth, America, authorship, erotic panic and absurdity. It was also the last Bad Seeds studio album to feature founding member Mick Harvey, giving the record extra historical weight in hindsight.
