4-Track Demos is PJ Harvey's 1993 document of Rid Of Me before it became a famous Albini-recorded confrontation. Released the same year as the studio album, it presents home-recorded versions and related songs with the protective skin removed: guitar, voice, distortion, room noise and the unnerving feeling that the songs are being written and exorcised at once. Rid of Me, Legs, Rub 'Til It Bleeds and Yuri-G appear in forms that make the violence and vulnerability feel almost too close; Reeling, M-Bike and Goodnight add material that sits naturally inside that same fever. The record is not valuable because it is unfinished in a casual sense. It is valuable because Harvey's writing, performance and control are already severe before any studio mythology arrives. In the early 1990s, when alternative rock was being absorbed into bigger systems, 4-Track Demos sounded like refusal preserved on tape.

4-Track Demos matters because it proves how much of Rid Of Me's force came from Harvey herself before production, band attack or critical legend entered the story. It is one of the great demo records because the intimacy does not soften the songs; it makes them more dangerous.

For collectors, this is an essential PJ Harvey companion piece rather than an appendix. It belongs next to Dry and Rid Of Me because it reveals the writing and performance architecture of her early period, especially for listeners who value raw starting point documents with real artistic authority.

Raw four-track alternative rock and blues-punk with exposed vocals, jagged guitar, tape-room intimacy, sexual threat, emotional violence and early-1990s underground severity.

Recommended for: PJ Harvey collectors focused on the Dry and Rid Of Me years; Listeners who value demo albums with standalone power; Fans of raw 1990s alternative rock and blues-punk; Collectors interested in home-recorded starting point documents.
