The Colour of Spring is the 1986 album on which Talk Talk moved beyond the synth-pop frame of their earlier work toward more organic instrumentation, open space and improvisation. “Life’s What You Make It” provides the immediate centre, but the record’s lasting character comes from the full sequence: “Happiness Is Easy”, “April 5th”, “Living in Another World” and the expansive “Time It’s Time”. For the album’s 40th anniversary, Matt Colton cut this 2026 edition at half speed at Metropolis Studios. The work was overseen by drummer Lee Harris and Charlie Hollis, son of Mark Hollis, and is pressed on 180g black vinyl.

The album is the pivotal bridge between Talk Talk’s early pop success and the exploratory sound they developed on Spirit of Eden.
