Private Dancer is the comeback album that does not behave like a comeback album. It sounds too sharp for that. Tina Turner did not return politely here. She walked in with What's Love Got To Do With It, Better Be Good To Me and Private Dancer, then made the whole idea of being counted out look faintly ridiculous. The record still works because it is not only a victory lap. There is polish, certainly, but also pressure.
