A Quiet Normal Life is a funny title for a Warren Zevon best-of. There is not much quiet here, and normal left the building somewhere between Werewolves of London and Lawyers, Guns and Money. That is the pleasure of it. This is the compact Zevon shelf in one LP: sharp writing, bad decisions, gallows humour, and choruses that behave better than the people singing them.

The translucent grape vinyl is exactly the right amount of unnecessary. A sober black copy would do the job, but Zevon was rarely at his best when things looked too respectable.
